High Tension: Philippines Warns China will fight back if assaulted again in South China Sea.

The Philippine military chief stated on Thursday that the country’s forces would respond with /”the same level of force/” in the event that they are attacked again by the Chinese coast guard in the contested South China Sea. Last month, in a violent confrontation, Chinese forces wounded Filipino navy personnel and damaged two of their boats using spears and machetes. China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, and Taiwan are all involved in territorial disputes in the South China Sea. For a long time, this has been considered as a potential flashpoint that might drive a wedge between the United States and China, should tensions turn violent.
